A Health & Wellness Campus for the Coachella Valley

My vision is one place to see a provider, navigate services, and find mental health support — without it feeling like a full-time job.

I see it as a training ground for local students to build healthcare careers right here in the Valley.

Right now, it's just a concept I want to bring to public discussion — no site, funding, or partners have been approved.

The Coachella Valley is growing faster than our healthcare system can keep up, and too many residents still drive an hour or wait weeks for basic care.

The District has the land, the mission, and, for the first time in years, a real capital opportunity to act starting in 2027, not someday.

I'll push us to move on this window deliberately, and we'll do it in the open, with the public at the table from day one.

Rather than one big building trying to do everything, I want this campus organized as a hub connected to spokes across the Valley, with clinics, mobile care, and telehealth working together.

Here's what residents could find there:

• Healthcare Workforce Institute
• Behavioral Health & Youth Wellness
• Community Navigation Center
• Healthy Aging & Prevention Center
• Health Data & Innovation Center

This isn't a new hospital, and it isn't the District trying to compete with Desert Regional or Eisenhower. It's the connective tissue between the care that already exists and the people who need to find it.

I'll insist any campus be built to strengthen our existing hospitals and clinics, not duplicate them, and we'll design it with those partners, not around them.

I won’t ask Distinct taxpayers to shoulder the this alone. The Distinct, along with our Valley hospitals, educational institutions, the nine desert cities and Riverside County, and community non-profits will share in making this campus a reality.

Let’s stop seeing each other as competitors, and start working together as collaborators. 

Also, this plan keeps the grant component of the Desert Healthcare District intact and has a built in escalator to hedge against inflation. This way, we can still provide the same non-profit support the District is known for and actually increases over time. 

We wont use all the $100 million from the initial lease payment; half will be put away for a rainy day. The District is in great financial health and I promise to make sure it stays that way.

This campus is one project, but it touches everything I'm running on:

• Care Starts Here — the campus is where accessible, everyday care becomes real.
• Care Without Walls — it connects to mobile care, telehealth, and neighborhood clinics so care follows people.
• Care Built on Trust — every dollar and decision happens in public, with the community at the table.
• Care Amplified — the workforce institute means today's students become tomorrow's providers, right here in the Valley.

Before a shovel goes in the ground, I want to see the financial model tested, the community's questions answered, and our hospital and education partners publicly on board.

I'll insist we prove this pencils out before we build it, and we'll keep bringing it back to the public at every major step.
